A great learning opportunity....

So I have been overwhelmingly consumed with looking for a job lately. It is maddening at times. Not to mention exhausting and a blow to your self esteem. Funny how something can take over your whole day and life. This is a pretty important thing though. I just feel so bad sometimes because you have to apply online for 95% of the jobs out their. It leaves you questioning if the posting is really real. You don't get any response from 90% of the jobs you apply for and every online application is different. You have to customize your application to each type of job you apply for and then wait and wait and wait, just to hear nothing.  I have rewritten my resume more than a dozen times. I have applied for close to 85 to 90 jobs in the past two months. I have pushed through even when I have felt so discouraged and unemployable and So much more... Needless to say it has been a great learning opportunity.

I have learned to...

• Create a generic resume to build from and save the job specific resumes in their own files. That way you have easy access to them when you need to post them to your application.
• Find web sites that have sample interview questions so I can practice for telephone interviews, answer online interview questions and personality interview questions.  I have typed up a general list of these questions and answers, saved them to a file so I have another quick reference to pull from.
• You must always answer your telephone with a friendly tone just in case it is a potential employer. First impression over the phone is very important. 
• Job web sites have a lot of listings on them that are temp agencies so you have to learn who they are and decide if you want to go that route. Their are usually contracts involved and the temp agency handles your pay check. 
• Job web sites are not always the best way to apply for the job. I try to find the companies web site first to see if you can apply directly to the company. That way you know your chances of the application getting to them is better.
• Research the company history before you apply for the job. It will help you answer some of the interview questions during the process. Click on the "About us" section of the companies web site.
• Never apply for the jobs that do not list the companies name. I just made that rule for myself from the start. With so many crooks out their you never know who you are dealing with.
• The best time to get noticed is to apply for a job within the first day or two of the job posting. So many people are applying these days. The employer is overwhelmed as well. They can only look at so many applications. 
• No matter how silly the interview question may seem, their is a reason they are asking you. The employer needs to know who they are hiring. Always make your answer a positive even if it is on a negative subject.

It is a lot of work, finding work. Stay focused, educate your self, endure, and pray, pray, pray. Don't forget to say thank you too.

This post is kind of boring and could go on for a while so I am gonna stop their. I have learned so much. I am thankful to have had this opportunity. I love learning. Even this stuff.

Raini and David are going to Rhode Island!!!! David got accepted to Brown University!!!! I am so happy for them. Good Job David!!!!!

What if.................

During my prayers this morning I started wondering what would happen if every person that prays and has faith in God our Father, started to pray for blessings upon all of the world. To bless and guide every one that needs it. That pretty much covers the whole world. Everyone needs some kind of blessing.
What if all of us started to ask Heavenly Father to bless and guide our country, the United States of America, to be the country Heavenly Father wants it to be. Isn't that the way it should be any way? To guide these people that are in charge, that have this power, to do the things that are best for our country.
I have been doing pretty good at reading the Book of Mormon and I am learning this is a possibility. Whole nations were blessed simply because the faithful prayed for it.

Little Did You Know

I feel like sharing some tid-bits that not every one knows about me. Mrs Becky Cook (AWESOME lady) did the same and it inspired me to do the same. I am just now getting to it so get ready to be stunned and amazed. Well maybe stunned, we will see.

Little Did You Know........

I have lived in Phoenix, South Phoenix , Tolleson, Flagstaff, Maryvale, North Phoenix and the state of Georgia

I planted my fist garden at the age of 8 years old. I did it by myself. It was about 10x10 and I grew watermelon, carrots, radishes, and I cant remember what else. My grandfather instilled the  love of gardening in me and it has never left. Thank you Grandpa.

We raised chickens, had a hamster, rescued a Grey Squirrel and raised it to its adulthood, Rescued many cats and dogs as well. Always had animals around.

I used to catch the big black ants, scorpions, giant praying mantis, grass hoppers, centipedes, Locust, very large tree beetles, Lizards and horned toads, and frogs.  I would collect them in large jars and watch them do what ever it was they do.

I lived two blocks away from south mountain and the desert was our play ground. We played hide and seek, hiked, had pick-nicks, and rode motor cycles in those mountains. We caught locust and tied string to them and fly them like a kite. In the summer time at dusk the tree beetles would fly at your head and we would use a shovel to bat them away.

My oldest sister tried to feed me canned dog food when I was around 2-3 yrs old. It was a huge spoon too. She said to me "tastes like candy" I remember my mom catching her and boy did she get into trouble.

I love fried spaghetti and ketchup on my scrambled eggs.

I made honor roll once in high school because I got an A in my art class and B's in the rest. School was always a challenge. It took a lot of really hard work to get those grades. Art was my best subject.

Christmas is my absolute favorite holiday.

I collect book markers. Strange I know but it has something to do the art work they are able to fit on the book mark itself. I like the colors, the quotes, the pictures, and anything that makes me feel good.

I was never allowed to play sports in High School because my mom thought I was going to turn into a juvenile delinquent.

I tried out for Pom and Cheer in High School. I missed first cuts by 10 points. Oh well. Yes I know This is a sport. Their were a lot of contradictions growing up.

I came in 51st out of 200+ riders in my one and only bike race. I was not able to continue riding because life went a different direction at the time.

I repelled of the side of a very tall mountain. It was a youth activity and we had a fire and rescue guy that lived in our ward. He took us out and taught us how to repel. I absolutely loved it. I want to go again someday.

I know how to use a band saw, drill press, propane torch, circular saw, miter saw, hand drill. I used to ask for power tools for Christmas.

I locked my keys in the car. It was still running. The kids would not stop arguing and I was stressed to the max. This was the result.

So their you have it. Things I bet you didn't know about me. Life is a wonderful challenge.

onions

Don't ask me why I woke up this morning thinking about this but here we go. Well actually I found this recipe I want to try and so this is why I woke up thinking about how to pick out onions. My dad is the one that taught me this and so I am now passing on the knowledge.

If you want a sweet onion it must be flat, if you want a hot onion pick the fat round ones.

Their, I have educated some one on the fine art of onion selection. My job is done for now. I feel better. I can move on.
